J.B. is finished.

Strike went amazingly well today. It was pretty quick and very smooth. There weren't any huge outbursts or much frustration from anyone. Probably one of the best strikes I've experienced. The show went well too.

I'm sad the shows are finished. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself. I just spent the past two months with the same people almost every day. I miss them already.

I have to say  being an A.D. was probably one of the most fun and rewarding things I've ever done. It makes me that much more eager to learn more. I can't even describe how good it feels to not only be living my passion but to excel at it. (Or at least I assume I'm doing well and I take compliments and constructive criticism very seriously.) I can't wait to start doing some of my own directing. I feel like I'm headed in the right direction. After two years I'm FINALLY on the right path.

Now I just have to be patient and wait for Sweeney Todd auditions and Alpha Psi Omega initiation. I think I'm looking forward to those as much as I am my 21st birthday. Sad!

I would like to thank Jeanne again for giving me this awesome opportunity and taking the time to teach me something that I promise you I will value for the rest of my life. I really, sincerely, appreciate what you've done for me. : )

I hope I don't go crazy in my free time!!

Break a Leg. . .

Opening night went well I suppose. I don't get to see the show anymore because I'm back stage helping with quick changes and bloodying people up a bit.

I wasn't even really awake for act two. I wasn't feeling well last night. As of right now I'm feeling better, let's hope it lasts. I am looking forward to tonight. I'm on my own with the quick changes and the makeup stuff. Hopefully there will be no costuming catastrophes.

Wish me luck!

Why Why Why!?!?!?!

So people informed me that the music I picked out for Nickles during the show is cheesy. : (

I know they don't realize how hard I worked on it and how difficult this really was but it's still disheartening. Made me a little sad and a smidge angry. Ugh. So now I'm stressing about it hardcore. Not to mention the music wasn't played in the right place last night either. . . which didn't make it any better. I think maybe we should just cut the Satan music. UGH! I worked so hard on it though!! *tear*

AND I've found a much better song that I think people will like much better but I can't find it anywhere to download it and I'm not paying $10 for one song. Again I say UGH! :(

OK now I've done my bitching and I've cried my tear. Time to suck it up and get over with it. Now to see what Jeanne says about cutting the Satan music.

At least the JB/Sarah music was good. :)

Not exactly theatre . . .

Happy Halloween!!!

I love this holiday. : )
And today is the perfect day for it. The dark blue billowing clouds have rolled in and the contrast between the changing leaves, the orange pumpkins everywhere, and that gorgeous sky really is breathtaking. I probably love this holiday so much for the unrecognized beauty that's all around. Not to mention this is one of the only holiday where creativity seems to reign. OK OK OK I'll stop blabbing on this awesome holiday and move on to something more relative to my theatre blog. . .

Well my AD duties are starting to come to a close. I've handed over most of my responsibilities to Wendy. She's fantastic. Tonight we're running rehearsal together. It's a line drill party!!! Woot! Sucks for the actors but I'm pretty excited about it. We get to dress up. I'll be Tina Turner's white sister from another mister. You can call me Tessa. : P

After line drill we'll have a super awesome Halloween party. We were going to do our Alpha Psi Omega initiation but our stuff isn't in yet. *sad face* Oh well. By putting it back a few weeks we get to have an initiation WEEK!! So excited!!!

Well I'm off to finish up my amazing Halloween goodies! Hope everyone enjoys this fantastic day.

Today is my first big rehearsal all by myself! Holy crap! I'm really excited. Hopefully I won't screw anything up. We're only doing act two so it can't go that badly.

One Down. . .

Well Marcus was a hit! I had so much fun doing this show. The cast and crew were fantastic and I'm really looking forward to working with everyone again.

For the most part everything went really smoothly. Opening night we had an issue with the sound. Martin was set in the car ready to go. He went to "turn on the radio" and about ten seconds after the song started the CD player just stopped. I panicked. I had Rusty restart the song and the damn thing play for about fifteen seconds and then skipped to the song that plays before Martin's song. At this point I was about ready to cry. Thanks to Casey he helped me stay relatively calm and we just pulled the lights and ended the scene. Later in the show our light board got a whole scene ahead of the cues but that was easily fixed. It wasn't the best opening night I could have had as a Stage Manager but it could have been much worse. I am relieved I'm not Stage Managing J.B.

The rest of the shows went spectacularly. Everything worked fine and the actors did a fantastic job. The only disappointing part was the laugh of a sense of humor in our last two audiences. Oh well what are you gonna do?

Now on to J.B.

Then Alpha Psi Omega auditions!

Then SWEENEY TODD AUDITIONS!!!!!!

Yay!

DON'T PANIC!

AAAAhhhhhh!!!!!!

Preview is TONIGHT!!!

Here it goes!

Organized Chaos

Posted by S. Ann

Well my Assistant Directorship has come to a close for Marcus as we go into tech week. I am now the Stage Manager for Marcus and I will continue to be AD for the run of JB.

I'm finally starting to feel overwhelmed with everything I've got to get done today. I didn't get a chance to do much work with the music yesterday so I've still got a TON of editing to do. I also haven't gotten any of my paper work typed up. I was planning on having time this afternoon to do that but I always forget about my stupid lab. So now I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

On top of the sound stuff I've got to run and get a pizza, some muffins, and some tea. I think I'm going to have to delegate some of this stuff to other people.

I'm excited about this weekend. I'm sure it's going to be a great show.

Alright off to be productive!

Utter Chaos (and I'd have it no other way!)

It's been awhile since I've updated. There has been ssssoooo much going on.

Since I've last updated I've gotten to run my own rehearsal, we've gone off book for act two of Marcus, I've put together music for Marcus, researched some music for JB, AND Jeanne applied for the rights to . . .

. . .

. . .

SWEENEY TODD!!!!

I'm super excited about all of this.

My rehearsal went well. I led the warm-ups with the cast members that were there and we worked lines. It was fun. I like that I'm actually getting to be so involved. I thought that it would be more just watching but I'm so thrilled that I get to participate.

Lines for act two went almost as well as lines for act one. I'm really impressed with our cast. Yet again! It's awesome to work with such great people. I'm really looking forward to working with the tech crews as tech week approaches. I'm more comfortable with the tech crew mostly because I know them better. I feel more accepted by the tech crew too. I'm sure it will just take more time and patience with the actors. Whom I already love btw. . . I'm hoping they think I'm pretty swell too.

I LOVE LOVE LOVED picking the music for Marcus. I feel like I have a good intuition for that kind of thing. I think in emotions and colors. So lighting was fun for me. I've never really done music stuff before. But I'm hooked. Surprise surprise. I love theatre!

Oh Sweeney Todd. . . swoon!!! I'm really excited about this. I hope it comes through. My only concern is my inability to decided whether I want to be on stage or stage manage. I'm really leaning towards acting. It's been awhile and I'm not confident in my ability. (So I'm listening to Pandora right now and the song that just came on is Take a Chacne from Momma Mia. . . guess that's a sign?) Guess I'll just take a chance and audition. : )

I love this semester!

Block Head!

Posted by S. Ann

Yay! Blocking for J.B. is done!

Now all I have to do is meet up with Ryan to figure out what I missed. I'm looking forward to being off book with Marcus and a little nervous with JB. I'm hoping people are really listening to what Jeanne has to say about memorizing lines. It would be a shame for this show to not be as great as it's potential. And believe me there is some amazing potential there.

More to come soon

Ciao

Photo-tabulous!

Amongst a million other things yesterday, I got to direct a photo shoot for Marcus is Walking!! Best part of the day. (And that's saying something because I got a pedicure and a manicure.)

It was so cool! I can't wait to see the pictures. If they turn out anything like what it looked like being there, the pictures are going to be awesome. I'm proud of myself. . . hopefully I'll still be proud when I see the results. :)

Short post today. Lots to do.

Ciao!

First Blog!

Posted by S. Ann

Original title don't ya think??

So the purpose of this blog is to not only fulfill a requirement for a class but also to keep a written record of my severe addiction to all things Theatre.

This semester I'm taking a "special problems/special topics" class with our universities new Theatre Director. Basically I'm getting credit to learn how to Assistant Direct as well as Stage Manage. We're working on two shows right now, Marcus is Walking and J.B. I'm really excited about both!

We've started rehearsal for Marcus is Walking and I'm really impressed with Jeanne (the Director) and they way she handles rehearsals and we students in general. I adore her and I'm certain both casts do as well. It's nice to have someone who actually likes their job and what they are doing!

So far during rehearsals I've just been taking notes and paying attention to how Jeanne interacts with the actors to get the desired effect of the scenes. It's really impressive. Speaking of impressive, I love the cast for Marcus. They constantly make me laugh and I can tell this is going to be a super fun show. I have yet to really work with the J.B. cast but *hopefully* I'll get a little play time with them at the end of this week. (That is if I'm not completely consumed in my Maid of Honor duties this weekend.)

Speaking of duties I should probably get to class but I'll be sure to update more as our drama unfolds.
Ciao!
